Would you enjoy a tour of India's Great Mughals: Art, Power and Opulence exhibit now on view at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts?

Mimi Ryland, docent since 2007, is offering a private tour for Council members.

Immerse yourself in the golden age of the Mughal Empire. India's Great Mughals: Art, Power, and Opulence celebrates the glorious artistic achievements and grandeur of one of history's great empires.

India's Great Mughals includes 200 sumptuous objects—intricate paintings and manuscripts, lavish textiles, architectural elements, metalwork, furniture, arms and armor, dazzling precious stones, and more. Opulent works of art—many made in the imperial workshops—convey the power and tastes of the three most celebrated Mughal emperors: Akbar (r. 1556–1605), Jahangir (r. 1605–27), and Shah Jahan (r. 1628–58). From the tiniest jeweled objects to the monumental wonder of the Taj Mahal, this highly sophisticated and globally connected empire produced treasures of unparalleled splendor and magnificence.

Tours are limited to 12 and there is no charge.

Please meet 10 minutes before your tour at the Hirschler Flowers in the Atrium.

This special tour will be offered on 2 additional dates: May 26th (10am) and June 3rd (10am). Please only sign up for one date as the Tours will be the same on all three days.

Meet at the deck on the Upper Belvedere at the top of the waterfall stairs.

If you were able to go on this popular tour with Michael Partusch previously we ask that you consider not registering again this year and allowing another Council member to attend. - Thank you.

Registration Information:

The tour is limited to 30 participants. A waiting list will open once the tour is full.
The deadline to register is May 18th.
